What You Need

  1. USB Flash Drive: 8GB to 32GB capacity.

  2. PC / Laptop: To format the drive and extract the package.

  3. Extraction Software: WinRAR, 7-Zip, or standard OS unzip tools.

  4. Firmware File: 9216GTV14.0_ph.zip (contains upgrade_image.pkg).

Step-by-Step Recovery Procedure

[!CAUTION]

Read Before Proceeding: Intercepting power during a forced bootloader flash will destroy the flash IC. Ensure your wall socket is stable before starting.

Step 1: Format Your USB Drive

  1. Insert your USB drive into a PC.

  2. Open This PC, right-click the drive, and select Format.

  3. Set the File System to FAT32 and click Start.

Why FAT32 is mandatory: The low-level bootloader on the Skyworth board cannot read NTFS or exFAT file systems during a cold boot sequence.

Step 2: Prepare the Package

  1. Unzip 9216GTV14.0_ph.zip.

  2. Locate upgrade_image.pkg inside the extracted folder.

  3. Copy upgrade_image.pkg directly to the root folder of your USB drive (e.g., E:\upgrade_image.pkg).

Important: Do not place the .pkg file inside any subfolders, and do not rename it.

Step 3: Run the Force Update Method

Since a bootlooped or frozen TV prevents access to the standard Settings menu, trigger the bootloader via USB detection:

  1. Unplug the TV's power cord from the wall.

  2. Plug the USB drive into the USB 2.0 port (black or white port). Avoid blue USB 3.0 ports, as bootloaders often lack USB 3.0 controller drivers during initialization.

  3. Plug the TV power cord back into the outlet.

  4. Do not touch the remote or power button. Observe the front panel:

    • The red standby LED will start blinking rapidly, or a "LOADING DATA... 1%" bar will appear on screen.

    • After a few moments, the screen will switch to: "UPGRADING SOFTWARE PLEASE DO NOT TURN OFF" with a progress bar.

Step 4: Wait for Automatic Reboot

  • The flashing process takes roughly 5 to 15 minutes.

  • Do NOT turn off the TV, toggle the switch, or pull the USB drive while the bar is filling.

  • Once installation reaches 100%, the TV will turn off and restart into the standard Google TV setup screen. You can safely remove the USB drive after the boot splash completes.
